Lee, I took a look at your MM share with us and it surprised me that it was all in MP3/CDG

format rather than Zipped.

I downloaded you MM64## folder and it came to 2.37 GB (2,554,575,556 bytes)

I unzipped it and then re-zipped and the size fell to  1.74 GB (1,878,470,228 bytes)

which is roughly a quarter smaller.

It would give you more space on Mega if they were zipped files.

Just advising you, no killer ;;)

Hi BJ,

All advice is welcome!

Yeah, you will find the full 2TB of files is in MP3+CDG format 🙂

I did explain way-back-when why I was doing it this way...

While I am working on these collections it is unavoidable.

Re-tagging/checking/swapping faulty .cdg files/ bulk editing etc. etc. I have to work with unzipped files.

Some of the programs I use won't deal with zips.

Also, I have found many errors simply by unzipping the files in the first place!

I guess once my work is done (!) I could zip everything back up, but in the meantime, everything is MP3+CDG and I will leave it up to people to decide whether they want to re-zip them if they take some files.

*Of course, you can't save space by zipping an MP3, it is just the .CDG that compresses, but as you say, these squash down by a fair bit.*

Wilkinp4,  You do realise that every time that you transcode an MP3 you debase the sound

quality a little more.

If your 64kb/s karaoke tracks were mono, then they were the equivalent of 128kb/s stereo.

Sacot1 and I rip all of diss at 320kb/s so that everyone has the best quality available ~~ and

you downcoding from 320kb/s to 192kb/s defeats the entire object of the hard work that we

put into doing it.

If you want to normalise then transcode to WAV do your normalising and then save at whatever

you want to.

In these days of cheap Multi-TB drives youu should have no need to save space.

After working on the EZPs for a few days, I must admit my heart sank when I realised I had been swapping out 128K files for 192K files only to find out they had been transcoded 😞

I have re-downloaded Bradajoker's files before they disappear and I may re-visit them at some point. I can't face it yet though.

(Of course, if someone has genuine 320K EZPs I will swap those in instead....)

I am not having a go at Wilkin by the way, - we all do things the way that works for us, but I would agree with BJ, just don't re-code/transcode MP3s. You will notice the quality degradation. Some of them don't sound that good in the first place, so let's not make them worse!

( what about those ABBA ones on EZP57 and EZP 60!! 😞 )

Anyway, for now, back to the Elvis files on Music Maestro.....

Hey,

I am going through these missing Music Maestro discs.

I notice quite a lot are Elvis Presley discs.

6123, 6124, 6146, 6147, 6177, 6190, 6205, 6248, 6249, 6266, 6288

6322, 6337, 6338, 6356, 6357, 6371

I guess DaveyDee did not include these in his collection as they are duplicates of the songs in the "Velvet Elvis" collection.

So, my questions...

Is the Velvet Elvis collection a set (of 32 discs in the case of the MMVE3 set) that are just taken from existing Music Maestro 6xxx discs?

Or were some made especially for the Velvet Elvis collection?

Is there a list of the catalogue numbers that the Velvet Elvis collection contains?

The reason I need this is that the titles on these Elvis 6xxx discs do not state which version or performance the tracks are.

There are quite a few variations of some of the songs and I want to get this right.

Any help or info is appreciated.

Thanks.

Lee.

**EDIT - I am grabbing images of the 6xxx discs from eBay so this may help **

OK, after some digging, checking, poking and messing about I have concluded that the Music maestro 32 disc set of Velvet Elvis
is made up from 32 existing discs, as follows:

VE11 - Elvis in concert LIVE = MM6177
VE12 - The king returns = MM6190
VE13 - Elvis by request = MM6205
VE14 - Christmas in Graceland = MM6215
VE15 - Elvis, Movies, memories & more = MM6229
VE16 - Elvis on stage = MM6248
VE17 - Forever the king = MM6249
VE18 - A Tribute to Elvis = MM6266
VE19 - Elvis, His gospel performances = MM6267
VE20 - Elvis Presley back at the movies = MM6288
VE21 - Elvis, the 50s & 60s = MM6305
VE22 - Elvis, the 70s = MM6306
VE23 - Elvis by request vol. 2 = MM6322
VE24 - Film tracks & early recordings = MM6337
VE25 - Elvis, favourite ballads = MM6338
VE26 - More ballads of the king = MM6356
VE27 - Whole lotta shakin' = MM6357
VE28 - Elvis, love songs & ballads = MM6371
VE29 - Lights, camera, Elvis = MM6381
VE30 - Elvis, king of gospel = MM6382
VE31 - Elvis, bringin' back the 70s = MM6398
VE32 - Elvis, one more time = MM6399

I will sort these out on Monday as I have already noticed some missing tracks/ incorrect track numbers in my collection...

Lee.

**EDIT** I also note that Music Maestro released 3 subsequent Elvis Presley discs that were not included on MMVE3

These are:

MM6414 - Elvis 50s & 60s

MM6415 - Elvis, the silver screen

MM6431 - In & Out of love with Elvis

Maybe we could make a Velvet Elvis 4 🙂

That's the same wih me.

Well that will have been a function of storage and/or transport, nowadays I meticulously check all ZIP and

RAR files that I get especially those from MEGA ~~ which I have found especially unreliable on large

downloads. Invariably when I DL from MEGA I find errors on individual files wthin the Zips, which I then

have to go back to MEGA and download individually to replace those that were found to be bad ~ and

twice I've found the replacements need to be replaced when I have checked them .

Checking is the name of the game every time.

When receiving ZIP files from other people I find that the best way of checking them is to immediately

extract the content from them uisng MP3+GToolz - which will stop every time it finds an error and I then

have to click [OK] for the prog to carry on.  I have MP3+GToolz set to delete the Zip after extraction, so

that once it's has finished I have a directory full of MP£s and CDGs - together with all of the ZIPs which

had errors.

Often I'll find that those errors were caused by extra files in the Zip and that the music and GFX are OK,

many times I've found extra Zips INSIDE the zip :)

I'm looking at a few things:

A;  You could store more on MEGA by using compressed files.

B;  It would take you less time to upload files toMEGA.

C; It would take downloaders less time to get the files.

Lee.

Sorry Lee, But you're wrong there the MP3 files can compress by a small amount, here are DIR text

printouts of the first three songs in a multi-gigabyte directory that I'm currently working on::

CDG first:

Y:\_KV\KV no ##\tmp>dir *.cdg
Volume in drive Y is Y: 8TB Kworkdisc
 Volume Serial Number is 8AB6-B973

 Directory of Y:\_KV\KV no ##\tmp

21/04/2014  02:18           1,221,600 KV - Andrews Sisters - I'll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time.cdg
21/04/2014  02:19           1,624,800 KV - Calvin Harris - You Used To Hold Me.cdg
05/08/2013  00:59         1,222,560 KV - Ronettes - Be My Baby.cdg
               3 File(s)      4,068,960 bytes

MP3 next:

Y:\_KV\KV no ##\tmp>dir *.mp3
Volume in drive Y is Y: 8TB Kworkdisc
 Volume Serial Number is 8AB6-B973

 Directory of Y:\_KV\KV no ##\tmp

28/06/2021  21:16           2,717,107 KV - Andrews Sisters - I'll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time.mp3
28/06/2021  21:16           3,611,457 KV - Calvin Harris - You Used To Hold Me.mp3
05/08/2013  00:59         2,717,987 KV - Ronettes - Be My Baby.mp3
               3 File(s)      9,046,551 bytes

Now separately Zipped cdgs & mp3s:

Y:\_KV\KV no ##\tmp>dir *.zip
Volume in drive Y is Y: 8TB Kworkdisc
 Volume Serial Number is 8AB6-B973

 Directory of Y:\_KV\KV no ##\tmp

25/01/2025  21:27             360,624 KV cdg test.zip
25/01/2025  21:26         8,886,053 KV mp3 test.zip
               2 File(s)      9,246,677 bytes

As you can see, the MP3 files total 9,046,551 bytes, and together they compress to

9,246,677 bytes, OK not a great deal but still something when added to the much

greater reduction for the CDG files.

As you can see it's well worth the compression just for the reduction that you get

with the CDG files from 9.046MB to 360KB.

I'm not trying to tell you how to share with the rest of us, just mentioning that you

could be sharing rather more than you are now with the 2TB limit, which you have

mentioned now and then in the past.

Quite right BJ, they are converted twice, once to wav then to mp3 @192. I decided years and years ago after taking the official sound comparison test for bitrates, and a lot of reading up on audio formats that 192 was about right for a CD. I have stuck with this ever since and am happy with that choice. As I said why have dolby 5.12 for someone to grab a mic and kill it anyway.
